
Grave of Johnny Clem at Arlington National Cemetery. The Drummer Boy of Chickamauga ran away from home at age eleven trying to enlist in the army. After Chickamauga, where he fought as a twelve-year-old, Clem was promoted to sergeant. After the war he finished school and rejoined the army. When he left the army in 1915, he was a brigadier general and promoted to major general at his retirement. Photo by Andy Turner
