First Shot marker at Gettysburg. Located west of town on Route 30 (the Chambersburg Pike), the marker locates the spot where Lt. Marcellus Jones borrowed a carbine from Sgt. Levi Shafer and fired a shot at a Confederate horseman in the distance. It is credited with being the first shot of the battle. The monument was purchased and place by Jones, Shafer, and Lt. Alex M.
